A Look at Three Potential Impact Call Ups - David Price, Max Scherzer and Daniel Bard

Lefty David Price has hit 99 mph with his fastball for the AA Montgomery Biscuits
With just August and September standing in the way of the playoffs and the non waiver trade deadline passed, teams are looking to their farm systems to see what minor league prospects are ready for a September call up. While many of these players will be simply getting a taste of the big leagues, others will be counted on to make a significant impact. Here’s a look at three possible impact players;
1. David Price, SP Tampa Bay Rays – The number one overall pick in last season’s draft has shown that his 99 mph fastball is up to the task of dominating in the minor leagues going a combined 10-0 with a 1.97 era. The 6-6 lefty should be called up possibly even before September and put right into the Rays bullpen. Should one of their starters go down he is the ideal choice to step in.
2. Max Scherzer, SP Arizona Diamondbacks – The hard throwing Scherzer probably should have been kept in the major leagues since his initial call up. He has dominated in both the minors and majors including a 2.90 era in the 31 innings with Arizona. Expect to see him step in and solidify their rotation if any of their starters struggle.
3. Daniel Bard, RP Boston Red Sox – Kind of a dark horse who lost his command early in the minors, Bard was dominant in college and has found his game going 3-1 with a 1.72 era in 68 innings. He could step into the hole in the bullpen left by Craig Hansen’s departure.
