Top Free Agent Second Basemen

Ellis is the top second baseman available: Image: Getty Images
Craig Counsell (38) – A solid role player off the bench, an NL team will want his veteran bat and defense.
Ray Durham (37) – Durham is looking for his last contract but defensively is about done, expect him to try to find a platoon or DH role.
Damion Easley (39) – Likely will be resigned.
David Eckstein (34) – Can’t see him getting big money but he has experience and is a reliable player who should have interest.
Mark Ellis (32) – Gold glove defense and clutch hitting, one of the top guys available.
Mark Grudzielanek (39) – This guy can hit, DH?
Jerry Hairston Jr. (33) – An up and comer who is just finding his groove. Had a strong year but battled some injuries. Should get a three year deal in the 10 million range.
Orlando Hudson (31) – A hot commodity whose only issue is his health.
Tadahito Iguchi (34) – Will be lucky to secure a backup role after a serious career decline.
Jeff Kent (41) – Nearing the end for Kent, could have a shot at a DH role to finish it out.
Felipe Lopez (29) – Still young enough to be considered for a starting role but won’t command a great premium.
Nick Punto (31) – Similar to Ellis.
