Offseason Preview: San Diego (Part One)

San Diego is entering a real tough time for the franchise after a terrible season saw them finish in last place of the worst division in baseball.
They need so many things its hard to begin, but it has to start offensively. The Padres were dismal last season at the plate outside of first baseman Adrian Gonzalez. Shortstop Khalil Greene (pictured above) is likely gone as is Ace pitcher Jake Peavy.
San Diego is almost certain to have a repeat type of season without Peavy but it could be a big opportunity for development and rebuilding. San Diego has a number of prospects who are ready for the big leagues. Some of them - Matt Antonelli and Will Venable, saw time last season. Others, Cedric Hunter, Kyle Blanks and potentially Kellen Kulbacki, can benefit from rapid rises through the system.
They should get back some big time prospects from the Peavy deal, ideally one of Atlanta’s young outfielders, Jordan Schafer, Gorkys Hernandez or Jason Heyward.
