Lineup Projection

C. Brian Schnieder

1b.  Carlos Delgado - Which is the real Delgado? The one who almost got released in the first half or the one who powered the ball in the second half.

2b. Luis Castillo

3b. David Wright - Choked in September, can he rebuild his fragile star?

ss. Jose Reyes - Would like to see him take the next step into hitting .330+ rather than in the .290 range.

lf. Fernando Tatis - Should get the first shot to prove that he can still do it. If he can’t look for the Mets to make a serious run at Matt Holliday, perhaps even a Fernando Martinez deal?

cf. Carlos Beltran

rf. Ryan Church - Was having a very strong season before falling to injury.

sp1 - Johan Santana

sp2 - Mike Pelfrey - Power fastball command enabled Pelfrey to take the next step into filling his potential.

sp3 - Derek Lowe - Would fit in well as a third starter for New York. Needs to stay in the Naitonal League to maintain his success.

sp4 - John Maine - Can he recover from his injury or will he be throwing 86 mph fastballs for the duration of 2009.

sp5 - John Neise - It’s him or Pedro, don’t count out a Pedro or even Curt Schilling cameo for the Mets.

closer - Francisco Rodriguez - If he struggles the calls for Putz will be extreme, Putz has been the better closer over the past three years.
